Celestion was one of the first companies in the world to apply metal dome technology to speaker design, so the superb performance of our titanium dome tweeter is based on years of research and experience.
Titanium is used because its exceptional stiffness to density ratio allows the dome to be made just one thousandth of an inch thick. The shape of the dome itself is designed so that the first break-up mode (where the dome begins to flex) is above 20khz. This ensures that the unit's behaviour is tightly controlled throughout the working bandwidth, resulting in very low distortion, flat frequency response and smooth acoustic dispersion.
The tweeter is ferrofluid-cooled to improve power handling, so that loud peaks are clearly and accurately reproduced. A very high energy magnet made of neodymium iron boron is used to reduce the overall size of the tweeter so it can be placed closer to the mid-range/bass drivers for optimum vertical directivity.
