Laser Interferometry

Good HF unit

The use of lasers to measure vibrations is another advanced technology that Celestion has pioneered in speaker design. The technique is so effective because it doesn't touch (and therefore influence or damage) the test object at all.

The laser beam scans the surface of the vibrating object and measures the velocity of each point on the scan, using the Doppler principle. The overall effect, with the use of moving computer graphics, is like a dynamic microscope that allows engineers to see and analyse movements invisible to the naked eye. This is illustrated in the laserplots above.
